Every time I hang up my parents phone and go to use it right after, it does not give me a dial tone..?

It used to only do it every once in a while, but now it does it all the time...Does anyone know how to fix this or at least whythis happens!!

I am the only person in the house and I am pretty sure that no one is listening to my calls outside the house. This happens at all times...8 AM, 2 AM...No matter what time it happens.

Ummm... does anyone ever listen to your phone conversations? If another phone in the house is off the hook, you will not get a dial tone when you've hung up from your last call.

How long does it take to reset?

If there is a problem with the phone you are using, it may have a problem going "on hook". Since the phone company cannot determine the status of whether your phone is on or off the hook, it may be assuming that the call is still in progress. If that is the case, you don't get a dialtone because the phone company doesn't know the call has ended. I would try another phone at that extension and disconnect the phone you are currently using. If the problem resolves, it is a defective phone. If it does not, it may be another phone in the house that is bad or a wiring problem.
