I think the last answer was a bit harsh. I also keep everything for my cat in the bathroom - it's fairly large so the food is not near the litter box but with the way my apartment is situated, I don't have many choices. When you say change his litter box do you mean scooping or do you mean completely throwing all the litter out and then putting new litter in?? You should buy a scooper and scoop out poop once to twice a day and you can add some baking soda to the litter to control odor. As long as you are scooping daily, you should be able to use that same litter 9-14 days - I completely dump the litter and refill with new litter about every 9-14 days (wash the box as well) but I scoop out all poop before I leave for work and when I get home from work. Hope that helps.

Well you can use an air freshener up on the counter if it is away from the food (don't use a kind that would spray out a fine spray into food) per say but a couple of questions.
Why is his food in where is litter box is?? Is that necessary?
Also why just change the litter every 3 days if there is an odor problem? If you use the clumpable litter you can scoop out the clumps daily and that will ease up on the odor greatly.... plus probably end up costing less in the end if you are doing complete changes every 3 days.

I started using this Arm and Hammer baking soda stuff specfically made for the litter box. It works really well. Or, if that is too fancy or expensive, just use plain old baking soda.
Cover the bottom of the litter box with one-quarter inch Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, (or whatever brand you want) then add the litter. It doesn't smell nice like the special litter baking soda, but it will work.

Why don't you just strangle the cat and be done with it rather than slowly poisoning it to death?
There are many dustless and odorless cat litters out there like Tidy Cat so you do not have to keep the litter box in the bathroom. In fact, you shouldn't keep it in the bathroom at all. For one thing, the door is closed on the bathroom at times and what if the cat has to use the litter box? For another, the dampness of the bathroom will be absorbed by litter necessitating more frequent litter changes.
As for keeping the food in the bathroom, I would rather you take the kitten to the human society for euthanasia rather than torturing it with however long it's life lasts by feeding it in the bathroom. Do you eat in the bathroom? Do you like your food sprayed with air freshener?
All I can say is I pray to God you never have children. You can't even take care of cat properly.

I use that carpet freshener stuff in my cat's litter box and it helps.I don't think that air freshener will harm your cat as long as it isn't sprayed on or near his food. I think that certain people are being way to harsh with their answers. You know if some of you actually read the entire question you would see that she in fact DOES scoop the poop out twice a day!!!!

Use an air freshner that sits on the counter or use some potpourri. If you will try Fresh Step it has odor eliminating carbon, and it has a fresh scent It really works! My sister uses this and she has 4 cats in her small mobile home. When I visit I never smell the cat litter.

Try not to use air freshner sprays near your cat in case he breaths it in - they usually say on the label whether or not to use around pets.
I use incense sticks when my cat has been in his litter box, - cheaper, kinder to him and the environment.
(Wow you've had a couple of grumpy answers - people should read the question CLEARLY!)

You could use one of those plug in ones, so long as the kitten cannot reach it. I wouldn't use a spray, but you can use febreeze on the carpets and drapes (and spray when your cat is out of the room).

I hope you're not using a spray...
rather use one of those permanent ones,
if you know what I mean...
