my female dog is in Heat. But my male dog is too big to breed them with {70 LBS Basset hound vs. 6 pound chihuahua} well last night my dog became very agressive.. He started attacking evreyone and everything in sight. do you think it is because of hormonesor just mean temperment..? he has been mean before but NEVER this bad.

Is there a reason you don't get your dogs fixed? It would solve a lot of problems and prevent a lot of problems. Whether or not your basset can breed your Chi, he is probably being very defensive of her so no one else breeds her. Get them both fixed-- it will make everyone's lives a lot easier, and prevent breast cancer, uterine infections, and unwanted pregnancies in the female, and prostate problems, testicular cancer, and perineal hernias in the male. It may help decrease his aggression, too. Good Luck!!
PS: Don't assume the size difference will prevent a pregnancy- where there is a will, there is often a way.

Go get him fixed, he will be happier and you will be too.
We had to and I mean had to get our 170lbs English Mastiff fixed (if we got him a g/f his pups would sell for a good price around $1000 each, he is from great blood lines so maybe more). Male dogs get mean, aggressive when a female goes into heat, they can be very destructive!
Hopefully your pooch's are not getting punished for being dogs, this is a easy "fix", if that is you will do it....

Get these animals fixed before something BAD happens and you have a tragedy in your house.

Yes, a male dog acting up when there is a female in heat is not unusual. Fix them both ASAP

There is a ***** in heat he wants it. Spay. Neither of your dogs are show dogs and should not be bred. Get them altered for their own health if your chihuahua gets preganant by your basset it could kill her.

This isn't too surprising. A horny dog can become very aggressive. It isn't necessarily because of genetics. Hormones do play into this. It's a mix of factors.

Instead of focusing on your dogs, think about the environment. Find ways to keep them apart when your female is in heat or when your male dog seems to be getting aggressive.

Here's a link to an article on dog bites and dog bite prevention. Keep this in mind when your dogs are getting nutty!

You can't be too careful...

Good luck!

He is guarding his girl. You would be doing them both a favor is you could get her spayed and him neutered. That would solve the problem. If he is getting that aggressive, he could bite someone. Try to keep them separated if you can.
Good luck.

It is because of the female being in heat and he wants to breed her but can't. Even tho he is too big, you need to keep them seperated until she is out of heat. He could hurt her trying to breed her.

he is picking up the scent and that doesn't change his instinct ; just frustrating him to have a female in heat that he can't do anything about; can't blame him; like being in a candy store ; you can look but you can't touch

IT'S SO CRUEL! GET HER SPAYED AND HIM NEUTERED!

Don't torture him by having the female in the same house during her season.
