I started to realize the difference between things I could control, and things I can't control. This helped me sort out my negative feelings towards some things because I can't help it and neither can anyone else help it if someting just is. Then I realized that your whole day could be considered great if you think positively through it and accomplish things for you. A situation that you are feeling negatively about or that ruins your day could be simply a 5 minute downer instead of something that lasts the whole day, or continuous negative thoughts. The key is to realize you are thinking negative thoughts when they appear. Anytime you are feeling down, take a step back and think... 'wait. i just told myself something negative' acknowledge that you were thinking something negative. this gives the little voice inside your head validation that something seems unjust, angers you, or depresses you. Then you need to divert your attention immediately to anything you can think of. It coudl be a pre-planned positive thought that may take your mind off of it, or it could be anthing that will distract you. start a crossword, watch tv, surf the internet, do anything that will distract you from that thought and move on in the day. any time a negative thought appears to you you need to remember to acknowledge it for a moment and then distract yourself to think positively. pretty soon you will be thinking positively more often and a negative thought will come by less often and be tons easier to pick out. at first you may go for a long time before you remember to stop your thoughts, but thats because you are used to negative tendancies. just keep trying and you will improve

First off, if you want to see positive, you must know what is good in your life before exploring what is not. You are alive,and that is good. You are aware of your habit of looking at the shadows, instead of the light. But there can be no shadows without light, there is no bad without good, they are attached . Perspective is looking thru the eyes of an artist and seeing an empty canvass and wanting to paint or draw. The fact you know there is a way to train your mind, puts you ahead of many negative thinkers, who would simply deny the possibility of changing for the better. You speak with hope and therefore have it inside you.Practicing anything tends to make it easier,so trying to find a positive solution must be good.Look around at the place you live. Is it a box, or under a bridge, or are you starving each day? if you can stand you are ahead of many. If you can walk you are ahead of many more. If you can realize a need to better yourself, you are way ahead of the game. Practice does not make perfect, just better. So practice what you are aiming at,and do not be afraid of not being perfect, none of us are.Forgive yourself for not being perfect ,and go on. The rest is just little poop. Trying is the true key .

Just think about the consequence of your negative thinking or
your positive thinking. The best result would be the positive one. For example you lose it and strike some one you may be in trouble
and may end up in jail or get sued. But if you walk away you keep
your freedom. Other things you can do is always think about positive things and surround your self with positive people. Get hobbies you can enjoy and that will keep you from negative thinking cause you are so busy you don't have time to think negative.

Thinking through the negative by pretending to see the positives, you are better able to train yourself to think in the light and not the darker part of life:)
Fake being positive untill you become positive!
I had depression for the longest time and couldn't think of the better things in life. I started to get help and slowly recoverd. To get me out of thinking negative, I simply faked being happy and positive until I really became happy and positive. Now I am very happy and a better person to be around:)

Change the things you are saying to yourself!! You said your tendency if to think things won't work out... If you wake up every morning and say "this is going to be a horrible day", it probably will be. I know it's difficult to do, but try telling yourself positive things even if you don't believe them at first. Soon it will become a habit and you may start believing yourself and your new outlook!

A lot of it depends on the mood. I try to go out and do something I really enjoy so that my spirits will be lifted. Also, accomplishing something productive helps too. Slowly my mood gets better, and I become more positive.
