The secret of car and sea sickness is not to read or write, do not concentrate on anything close but to look as far away from where you are as possible. Do not bend down your head towards your lap but look around you - as far as the eye can see. By all means take the pill but if you read the instructions I am sure you will find that you should take it at least half an hour before your journey starts. Also, the food that you eat an hour or so before you start the journey is very relevant. No sausages, no chicken and nothing greasy.................. Good luck, but the distance you look at is the best bet..............

As many times as I've cruised, I sometimes still get some motion sickness. If you only have motion sickness during rough seas or high winds, and you've purchased travel insurance (you should never travel outside the US without it) then call the ship's doctor. Skip the pills and the home remedies - they never work for me either. The doctor will give you an injection and you should be fine in about 1/2 - 1 hour. Some ships offer the injection at no cost, but if there's a charge for it on your cruise simply file an insurance claim when you return and you'll be reimbursed.

The best thing I've ever used was Bomine. You start taking it like a day before your trip, and through the whole trip. It's works great and without the drowsy side effects of Dramamine. We took it for a cruise, and the weather was so rough that even the crew was getting sick, but we felt fine. But you must follow the instructions on any motion sickness meds, because by the time you feel it, its way too late for that.

You have to take the pills at least 45 minutes in advance.
I love roller-coasters, but I get motion sick bad. I usually take Dramamine 1 hour before I go on rides and not just one pill, but two. I will also take more later in the day to keep up the effectiveness. It works very well for me.

Meclizine (proposed INN is meclozine) is an antihistamine, considered to be an antiemetic. It is most commonly used to inhibit nausea and vomiting. An alternative to dimenhydrinates like Dramamine, Meclizine is considered to perform the same functions at an equitable level of effectiveness, but with reduced side effects.

Motion Sickness
Meclizine is effective in inhibiting the symptoms of motion sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Meclizine hydrochloride is sold under the commercial names

Dramamine II®
Dramamine Less Drowsy®
Antivert®
Bonine®

Bonikraft®
Emetostop®

You have to take them before you even start the motion, about 1 hr before. Also ginger ale (or ginger candy) and seven-up helps a lot. If you are sick in a boat, try to look for a horizontal line, like the coast line, if it is in a roller coaster, well, good luck!
