The Muslims circulate around the Kaaba, and try to touch some fragments of a rock, which some believe fell in front of Adams feet from heaven!!!! Are those Muslims worshiping the Kaaba, and the Black rock?!?!
I don't get it why do some people ask the same questions over and over again, and they usually get the same answers, and they come again, and ask them all over again!?!? Why?!
Very well.
If there are status of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and whomever else you might see, it is not worshiping them, it is representation of them. Or, should we just right their name on the wall and other items like the Muslims do! would that make you stop picking on the Christians!?
The Muslims would NOT let other touch their holy book, or let it touch anything else. It usually is covered with satin, and placed up high above ground levels among other traditions>..... Are they idol worshiping their holy book?
When a person kiss the picture of their loved one!? Are they idol worshipping them? or are they thinking of the person in the picture, and that is the person whom they want to kiss?
That is the same with the Status, the Crosses, among many other religious items, they are Icons of them. An item to remind us of them. Not worshipping the item, but the God up above, the one and only God. The Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.
Sincerely
Merry Christmass :)

No.
Interestingly enough, though, this is an accusation that some Christians level at others.
A statue of a saint is not being worshiped; it is an iconic image that represents a facet of Godhood or holiness; thus it gives the worshiper a way to *view* God or relate, personally, to devoutness or piety. Similarly, leaving flowers at a cross in a church is not worshiping that symbol; and altar offerings are not being given to the altar.
In the same way, Pagans do not worship the Sun or Moon, Muslims do not worship the text written in their mosques, Hindus do not worship statues of Shiva, Buddhists do not worship statues of Buddha.
And yet this is an accusation often put forward to "prove" that these other religions are false because of idol worship.
It's a case of "But it's different when WE do it".

I attend a Non-denominational Church of Christ. We use ONLY the BIBLE for our practices. In none of our Churches are statues found of Jesus or any other person. I feel that you are correct. No so-called Church would do so. I have heard that a number of the Catholic houses of worship do have statues, candles, and pictures of so-called "saints". We have gone back to the first-century Christianity decribed in the BIBLE. The Bible was written over a 1500 year period by 40+ writers. We find no place that refutes anything else that is written in it. I hope that I have answered your question. Have a great week!!

Hey, I'm a Christian and I too am offended by the "idol worship" in some churches. Mostly it is Catholics that have all the icons, but even true churches still wear crosses around their necks. It is not in the Bible, and as you menoned, God tells us not to make any images of anything in heaven or on earth. I think when protestants came out of Catholocism a few hundred years ago, they brought some of the old baggage with them and its hard for some to let go.

My church does not have a statue of Jesus in it. It does have a cross, but we don't bow to it, and we don't worship it. It is wood, it is not the living God, or even the embodiment of God. It's a symbol.
The cross I wear around my neck is a SYMBOL of my faith. It's not the source of my faith, or the source of my strength. That title belongs to God alone.
It is not idolatry to have symbols. The Bible says not to bow down before idols, and not to create for the purpose of worship.
Wearing a cross is the equivalent of the early Christians, who drew a figure of a fish on the ground to show that they were Christian. It wasn't an idol. They didn't WORSHIP the fish. It was a signal.

There is not a statue of Jesus or anyone else in my church. You should narrow your question to Catholics. Protestant churches do not have statues or crucifixes because we do feel it is idol worship. Some will not even have a painting depicting Jesus.
I can go into the history of how it got started in the Catholic church, but I won't. If you are truly curious try looking into Constantine and the changes he made to the church.

worshiping a statue would be idol worship, not owning one. There's a lot more idol worship going on around the television.

hmmm, that IS a problem isn't it?? um, yeah!!! duh. Basically, they are just ignorant. It is a direct result of the negative influence of the Catholic church and doctrine. (which, btw, is not Christian. They teach salvation by works versus salvation through Jesus Christ.) I totally back up what Ace said. They totally misrepresent Jesus. Remember that He WAS a Jew. To quote Kristi R- "worshiping a statue would be idol worship, not owning one." The Bible clearly stated in Exodus 20:4-5a- "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them;..." clearly we are not to make ourselves an idol OR worship it. This is clearly prohibited. I could go on and on, but to sum up, yes, it is idolatry in the churches that participate. What part of Exodus 20:4-5 don't they understand? to back up what Phoenix said, they are just picking and choosing what parts of the Bible they will follow. In reality, their theology is the word of God and the Bible is merely a source book to back them up. When it doesn't, that part is done away with. what it comes down to is that God is fallible and a liar. This is so false! instead they need to read the Bible for what it says in order to form their theology, rather than reading the Bible only to support their preconceived ideas.

i don't anticipate a brilliant style of human beings to purchase this yet i'm in basic terms questioning why is it that once Virgin Mary ask for prayers for the conversion of Russia, it did ensue. Are the apparitions of the Virgin Mary real as claimed with the aid of those toddlers? Or is it the artwork of the devil as claimed with the aid of people who would not believe. How can everyone anticipate a hardline socialist international ability to alter heart? Does it propose that the prayers of the Catholics and the eastern Orthodox honest do take bring about heaven? if so, will we evaluate it a real faith? bear in ideas that the fundamentalist Christians by no ability believed in it and nonetheless do not till now. This secret isn't for the unbelievers yet a minimum of is something for people who're vulnerable to believe to contemplate.

To many Christians, Jesus is both God and the Son of God. Therefore, to worship Jesus is to worship God. Besides, they don't actually worship the statue itself. It's not the stone, but the being it represents, that they worship.
