Depending on your state and the fact if you had actual current insurance, you should be able to go and show proof of your insurance and get out of it. You may have to pay court cost only. If you didn't have current insurance then you are probably looking at a fine, plus court cost and if you have to be represented by a lawyer then you will have to pay their cost too.

It depends mainly on the state you live in.

Driving without insurance is generally punishable by a fine of up to $2,500, disqualification of one year or more for a first offense and two years or more for a second offense, and, at the discretion of the court, a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months.

In the case of a first offense of driving without insurance, the court may decide in special cases not to impose a period of disqualification or to impose a period of disqualification of less than a year. Since 1st June 2003, where the court decides not to impose a disqualification drivers convicted of a first offence of driving without insurance will incur 5 penalty points on their licence record in addition to any other penalty imposed by the court.

The commission of a second offence for driving without insurance leads to an automatic disqualification.

In addition, it should be noted that some states require that a vehicle is being driven without insurance must be impounded.

Yeah when you appear for your court date just bring everything with you that proves that you had insurance at the time of the stop. Fines differ from state to state so i'm not sure what the fine or punishment would be for that.

I'm in canada not sure where you are but this happened to me here in canada and I got slapped with a 5000.00 $ fine because I had no proof of insurance on me but the cop was nice enough to give me a few hours to show up at the police station with it and he voided the fine. I was lucky! good luck!

Just take your insurance card to court, If it's current, the charges will be dismissed. If you had no current insurance, you'll be paying around 600 dollars.

Depends on what state, city, county you live in..... In my county in florida, the fine is 76.50 for failure to have insurance.

If I had my choice, it would be criminal offense not to have insurance.
