Just take ground beef and add some salt, pepper, bread crumbs and an egg. That is the basic, but you can ad all sorts of things to it to add more flavor. Depending on your taste you could add chopped onion, mushrooms, bell pepper, and spices. Experiment with stuff you have on hand. Also, one trick to make it specail is to mold your patty around a block of cheese and then when you bite into it you get the cheese inside. Yummy!

I usually get ground chuck (73/27) and I buy it in the biggest package I can get. (It is usually much cheaper that way!) If you want to make sure you get the most of your money, you might want to invest in a digital scale so that you can weigh the meat so that each burger is as close to equal weight as possible. To make the burgers more moist and flavorful I add seasoned salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. You could turn the burgers into "meatloaf burgers" or you could add very small pieces of cheese, bacon, or mushrooms to give the burgers a new twist.
I have found that this is the best way to stretch our food budget in a large family!

The trick is to handle the meat as little as possible. I make four burgers out of a pound of meat. I don't add anything to the meat, just make four balls and flatten them Then I pop them in the freezer to set up because mine like to fall apart.

season with salt pepper and garlic powder

grill or panfry

Here's my link to my article about hamburgers. It's particularly focused on how to make a juicy burger.

For economy, use ground beef or ground chuck as opposed to ground sirloin.

Hope this helps.
