we put new lights in the santa inflatable...not the lights that came with it so if we see it, we will know if it is ours or not..then what?

Place a Claymore Mine with a pressure sensitive trigger underneath your new inflatibles. They will detonate when the thieves lift them. BOOM No more thieves. Course there are probably a couple of laws against that but it sure is nice to think about. Seriously, Sorry to hear but the porch light probably wont work. Depends on your neighborhood. just have them up for while you are up and then take them down before bed.

Grab some of the motion sensor lighting and if you are able to place these over your garage door and at the entrance to your home...this may hinder them from approaching the house if they think someone is actually up and has noticed them.
If you can, have your vehicle equipped with an alarm system if it doesn't already have one...if it does always arm it when not in use.
Have a timer set to some of the main lights in the house that are easily seen from the street (or do this with the porch light), to come on and go off at random times throughout the night...have the timers set on a few different lights so that the same light doesn't activate each night...this random lighting will deter anyone from trying anything (especially if they are watching the house to determine the living patterns of its occupants.)
If you are very concerned about a break in...check with an Alarm company, a security company etc., to determine the best way to protect yourself.
Check to see if you have a Neighborhood Watch or some other type of neighborhood safety committee in your area...if not, contact the Police to determine how one can be set up...if things are quite bad...have arrangements for a Patrol car to do night watches of the area.
Good luck

Get to know your neighbors and start an informal neighborhood watch. People know people and it sounds like if this is happening to you regularly, the criminals are watching you.
If you find out who did it, you can call the police, but the criminals may retaliate against you later if you take this route. Just use your best judgement on that one.
In terms of prevention, you can try getting a dog, who will alert you when he hears something outside, or you can try one of the motion sensor lights that come on when there is motion, instead of having the light on all the time. More extreme is getting a video camera to watch your yard and find out who is doing this.
The best thing, though, is to get to know all your neighbors and have yourself known as the good neighbor who doesn't take s**t from anyone.

Move?? Bunk! Someone told me the same thing and I responded by attending meetings of the city commission until more police officers were hired and patrols were stepped up. I also installed webcams with USB extensions at strategic points around my home to video anyone foolish enough to trespass, motion sensor lighting helped a great deal. Also, getting to know my neighbors and showing that I refuse to be run out of my home helped a lot.

No, leaving the porch light on is like saying, "hello, we're not home right now, but we left the light on!"
Best thing you should do is contact the local police or Crimewatch for advice. I would post it here, but burglars and thieves read this site too, eh? Whatchoo think?

we always leave our front and back porch lights on 24/7. they are motion sensitive so they come on quite bright if someone comes to the door and are on extremely low if there is no activity outside. when its dark out and if someone is at the door its easier to see them in the light and if we turned them off in the morning we'd forget to turn them on again at night. the cost of running lo-watt energy efficient bulbs is minimal so we don't worry about that aspect and we are energy frugal in many other areas! besides there are no street lights in our area what-so-ever and without the porch lights it is so dark you can't even tell if you have your eyes open or closed! lol

It sounds like kids stealing crap.
My neighbor did that with our inflatable last year. Caught her and her friend (both drunk) with the daughter (can we say "good example"?) dragging it down the street to put it in another neighbor's yard.
It's not going out this year.
Do you have a tree or something you could wind the cords around?
Be very careful confronting anyone....definately don't do it alone...and call the police....
On the bottom of it - get a rub a dub marker and write your last name and phone number- and say, if found....blah blah. In BIG letters...also put - if found I have not and will not sell this - that way anyone should know that you haven't sold it (if that makes sense)
Also - what about using holiday ribbons and tying them places where you can (like the curling ribbon). soemthing else like that where you should be able to easily identify if from the street if they leave it one there.

Porch lights don't work. It just gives the thieves plenty of light to work by.

Motion Detector Lights or a Lawn Alarm that goes off at night when you set it from the house, to let you know when someone comes onto the property.
