I've been told the program to open these files is free, but every site I've found make you pay. Where can I get it?

WinZip as well as WinRAR can open both these files. These are shareware applications and can be used to open as well as create compressed files. Use them without concern.

This has been going on for years but it's still illegal to make a copy of copyrighted music UNLESS you purchased it and it is for your own use. Years ago whenever I bought a new album I would copy it to a cassette for my own use which is legal. Now when I buy a new CD I make WMA copies of it for my Walkman which is still legal as long as it's for my own use and not to give away or sell. Think of it this way: What if you were famous and had a Facebook page with a million friends and you wrote a blog about a great new CD you just bought and asked anyone if they wanted a copy to send you a blank CD and you will make copies for them. Do you think the artist or record companies would come after you, damn right they would because it's no different than file sharing music!

I haven't had to deal too much with Parchive Parity files (PAR). But RAR files are the standard format for WinRAR. A file compression agent like windows .zip files but much better. You do not have to pay for WinRAR. They accept donations after a trial period but you can still keep it on your computer and use without paying for it. Download WinRAR 3.61 here:

Looks like you can get quickpar 9.1 for windows here:
