people tend to add more to a story than necessary when they are lying!!!! if they start rambling on about one particular thing and giving you amazing details (and this isn't usual for them) then you might want to start asking more questions and try to mix them up!!!!

To me I can tell if they're lieing if they don't talk like they usually do. Or have one of your friends call him and ask him if u want to know the truth. That's what I would do!!!

Usually by the tone of their voice, if their voice is shaking or rattling, or if they just don't sound like themselves. (I'm sorry that you have to ask a question like that, I really am.)
