(Note: get proper diet plan from nutrition expert.)
To gain weight, you need not resort to junk food and beer, as, I am sure, your friends will suggest.
Instead, have properly balanced diet, with protein and vitamin supplements, exercise moderately, and do yoga.

Hi, as a vegetarian I have the same problem.
I am 5'9" and wieigh 9st4lb. That's a bit better than you, but I still do look quite skinny and I know that I would look much better if I filled up a little bit.
I would say that your target weight is probably too high, however what I'm trying to do now (apart from trying to eat more) is to increase the fat in my diet.
For me, this is totally safe because as a vegetarian who doesn't even like cheese, my fat intake is almost nil, so increasing might be even better for me. This means more milk (which I had totally given up) and a little cheese from time to time (though I don't like it very much).
But in your case, I don't really know what your habits are and wouldn't recommend it very literally unless you discuss it with a doctor.
Another practical tip to be able to eat more than you usually do, is to eat more quickly! I know there are many people who are trying to do the opposite to eat less, and I found that it does work.
Again, don't take this advice too literally as it may be totally wrong and even bad for you.
Good luck! Vickie

Like the others said, carbs and protein are your best bets, and also doing exercise like resistance training (i.e. lifting weights) will help because you'll build muscle, which is heavier than fat. I would advise against doing too much cardiovascular exercise though, as all you'll do is burn off the calories you've put on. The bottom line is to take in more calories than you're burning. Bananas, peanut butter, avocados are meant to be good for gaining weight.
One more thing, being really underweight myself, I wouldn't say that being 8st 11lb is SIGNIFICANTLY underweight, even if you are 5'10". I'm 5'7" and 7st 3lb, which is terrible.

i know someone in the same situation as u, and i lert a bit about how to do it when sitting with her while speeking to a teacher in our school:
he said, the best thing to do is eat little and often, so maybe like eat a packed of smarties while revising for an exam for example?
also he said, that if u add a little to ure everyday meals, not so that your confronted with a huge plate for dinner because that just won't work at all, but add a little extra to every meal and you will soon meet ure target.
best of luck to you
don't spend days on end worrying and worrying about the fact you have to gain weight, if you just relax you will succeed
a little xercise a day should do the trick, a set of sit up before bed or something?
i am not sure on the specific foods you should eat sorry, i am sure u will do fine :)
again the best of luck to u xxx

Lots and lots of protein and carbs. you can still eat healthy and gain weight at the same time, so you won't have to eat foods with a lot of saturated fats. Also look at the fat content of some products, i.e. milk products: instead of 1% try 2 or even 3.5% milk. Regular amounts of dairy products will help you out too. Eat cheese, yogurts, sour cream.

Yes exercise more .Go walking , climbing hills ,cycling anything like that in the open air, without overdoing it..What happens is that you will feel really hungry that means you will want to eat more and enjoy it without feeling that you have to.The thing about healthy exercise is that the weight going on will be muscle and not fat,you will look great and be fitter.
Good luck.

What about trying a food journal?
You can write down everything you eat and see where you can add additional calories.
Write down the time and food, if you notice your eating is spaced out you can add extra healthy snack into your your diet. or if your eating often maybe exchanging the type of food or portion size will help add more calories to your diet.
