Give her a break, will you? What does it matter to you anyway? Maybe instead of concentrating on how to get her out of this country, you could help her get a visa to stay here. We've got plenty of room...

Well, there are three options:
1. Deport the mom, but not the baby -- and that means taking a child away from its mother.
2. Deport them both -- which means deporting a US citizen, which is illegal.
3. Don't deport either of them -- which means overlooking the crime of the mother for the benefit of the child.
None are good choices, but #3 is the least rotten of the lot.

You want to separate a mother and child? Thats what I am reading into your question without you actually saying it.
I am against illegals being in this country as its a slap to the face of every immigrant and former immigrant (now a U.S. citizen) that used legal procedures to be here.
However - to separate a mother from her baby is cold dog heartless. I would expect the immigration officers in charge do not want that to happen - or are trying to avoid lots of red tape in a situation that is now under review to possibly change the laws to allow mothers of US born children to remain under certain provisions.

My understanding is that a child born here can stay here legally, a parent to a minor child legally here can stay with the child until is 18.
