There is no mention in the Qu'ran that women must be circumcised. In fact there is no mention of circumcision in the Qu'ran with regards to men.
The practice of circumcising men came from the tradition of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
I believe that this is totally a cultural issues because tribes in Africa, who have no connection to any world religion, practice it. Yes, there are Muslims who do carry out this horrible and disgusting ritual but from what I've heard its a result of their anscestors tradtions rather than divinie commandment.

I believe that it is cultural, but the men over there use the Muslim or what ever other type of Religion that they have as there weapon against the women. And it is very pathetic how men will use Religion to brain-wash the women into being their sex toys for sexual satisfaction! Back in the middle east it is the way of life for the women to end up in this situation. But I believe that when the women come to this country(The United States of America) they should be allowed to report this disgusting abuse that the men have been doing to them and become free from the horrible abuse that the men has been putting them through, instead of acting like they are helpless and that they still have to follow those stupid commands from their husbands.
Women are Equal To Men, And it is not right that those countries are still discriminating against them!

I have found that it is a most disturbing cultural practice. There is no reason that a female should be made to do this. From all the reports I have read about this, it actually harms the girl so physically and mentally.

Mav, that is not mentioned in Qur'an so one cannot say it's a matter of misunderstanding - since there's no such thing in Qur'an ..... it has smt to do with some tribes in Africa mostly - not really sure.
As for it being a part of Islam ......... BIG NOOOOOO

It's cultural. But the fact that the religion allows it and offers no protection to the women and girls is deplorable.

I would say its cultural but I strongly disagree with it and think its a violent, cruel, dehumanizing act. Shame on them, regardless of what they have been raised to believe.
