Mormons only go where they are invited or where they are sent.
For example, if I said, "This person is interested" then they would go to that persons house.
Another example: If a person in the home is on the Mormon roles - even if they have left the LDS church - they are visited.
However, they tend not to let go, even when you tell them to stop coming over.

Young men, and women too, serve two-year missions throughout the world. Their assignments range from within the United States to the Far East, Europe, Mexico, and South America.
Within their designated mission district they are assigned sectors of a city or township and travel to homes via bicycle (or car, if their district allows such). The missionaries do not usually stay in one area for the entire two years; they move on to other assigned areas in the same district after several months.
The missionaries' first lesson is about the prophets of old and the relevance of them in modern days. They provide a free Book of Mormon and NEVER ask for donations to compensate the gift. These young men and women will ask the resident to read the book and pray over it for the revealed truth. Too often, the prospect won't get past the first chapter and then use the book as a paperweight or is discarded.
Some of the prospects actually read the entire Book of Mormon and come to know of its truth and sacredness, that it serves as another testament of Jesus Christ.
Three lessons are now scheduled for those wishing to hear them. After baptism and confirmation, the membership step in and maintain close ties with the recent convert. The missionaries, while still in the assignment, maintain closeness with the new member as well until they are reassigned.
To reiterate, the missionaries ask for no donations--contrary to what one poster has said. How do I know all this? I accompany the local missionaries several times a month because they need another Elder when they visit single women in their household.
They also accompany me when I home teach my assigned families.
I suggest if you have additional questions about the LDS missionary program you ask those who know instead of those that love to distort the truth.

You handle them by letting them teach you. They are here to help everyone come closer to God and make it back to the celestial kingdom. I believe it to be the only true church of God. It is the same church as when Christ was on the earth. We are not a break off from any church, but we are restoring Christ's church back onto the earth, which was lost when Christ died. Joseph Smith is a true prophet and I know that to be true through reading the Book of Mormon. I have recieved personal revelation from God by reading that book. I encourage you to and maybe then you will find out for yourself if this church is true. :)

I grew up in a town with a fairly large Mormon population, but I never had them come to my door. JW's did though..many times.

have been acquainted with a few Mormons and the ones I have known are extremely polite as are most others. however, had a different perspective as the ones I know have a " special " connection to me which many others do not when they come to visit.

They've come to my house before. Mormons on missions visit houses in the town they are sent to. They just talk about their religion like J.W.'s do. I found them to be quite pleasant.

Yes they do. They do about the same as the JW's ask to come in, then they ask if you have ever heard of J Smith. Before they leave they will ask you to pray if what they have told you is true. If it were true, they claim you would have this swelling in your bossom. Which I count for no more than indigestion from having to listen to them.

They tell you the insane story of how this guy found magical plates that had new teachings of a lost civilization of Jewish people who moved to the united states and was visited by Jesus after he died. Then they give you some hand outs and try to get you to come to their church. Most people just ignore them but I like to mess with them.
