you need to put it into the icon file... when you click on properties on the icon you will see "change icon" copy the file name then when you load a logo , instead of putting it in my pics , paste the icon file where it says save to.
Update, use stardoc much easier

right click
properties
go to shortcut tab
it says icon at the botton
click CHANGE ICON
browse for it
press ok
done

NOTES
that u can't change icons for some files, only shortcuts
you need to download a special ICON file

you may in simple terms delete icons (they are in simple terms shortcuts), this gained't impression the corresponding classes. in case you want to take Microsoft's icons off the computer, get carry of TweakUI (record TweakUiSetup.exe) kind Microsoft. this can attempt this the better way. And it has a lot extra functional feachures.

all the above tell you how to change the icons,

but i think your prob is that ur making your own, and windows will not let you use ur pic (prob a .jpg ect...) as for windows icons it has to be a .ico image for it to work as a thumbnail for the shortcut.

to convert ur image to an .ico u can use this free plugin for photoshop, lets u save images in the .ico format (bar that i dont no any other software that lets u save to that format (but i haven't looked)

hope this helped.

you need to create an icon file that windows recognises. to do this you need software that creates icon files either from scratch or from an existing file. I did have one but I can't remember what its called, try google or download.com for the software.
