Muslims in Turkey are violently protesting Pope Benedict's upcoming visit, threatening to kill him over remarks he made a few months ago about Islam being a violent religion.

Now - doesn't that just PROVE, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that his remarks were correct? Laughing my *azz* off!!!

While I was in the military many, many years ago I spent a year of duty in Turkey. I have respect for the Turkish people, and this puzzles me because it is totally out of character with the urkish people. Istanbul is the See of the Eastern Church, and the government and religious community have always let the Eastern Church alone because it has behaved itself. Radical elements within the country are stirring up this trouble.

It seems they keep doing this over and over again, like when the very funny mohammed cartoons came out and Muslims protested, and here were all these followers of "the religion of peace" commiting violent acts over a cartoon most of them would never have even known existed were it not for their leaders wanting to stir up trouble. And in Iraq I keep hearing about people wanting the oppressive American occupation to leave, and what are they doing the whole time, killing each other in droves. It is a religious mindset that seems to cause insanity,ok in fairness all religions seem to do that eventually, but their insanity is just more visible at the moment.

Maybe. I wonder though if before 9/11, there would have been such an uproar and violent response over anything remotely critical of Islam. Because of the war on terror, anti-terrorism sometimes translates to poor ignorant folks as anti-Islam.
There has been a lot of anti-Arab, anti- muslim sentiment these last 5 years...I'm guessing they become more and more defensive, frustrated and over-sensitive. Justified? No. Makes sense? Maybe...
These are just wild guesses though..

amongst this group of people (desendants of Ishmael) there seems to me to be a common personality trait that needs some attention, and correction and these events point to it as you mention. I thought years ago I just happened to meet a few haughty ones who were overly sensitive (two traits one would think are contradictory) but as time goes by it seems widely spread in that culture.

No-it does not. And, it is just a few fundamentalists who are protesting. You know how our media is------got to pick up on a story against Islam. You have not heard that they report on the people who do not agree with them.

He had no right to say what he did---he said it was someone else's word, and not his. If they were not what he thought, he never should have quoted the words. He was downright stupid to do it. And, he never apologized for saying it--only that the words caused problems.

may have a point here. but we must remember everyone says things they don't mean in anger. prefer not to judge an entire Religion by the actions and words of extremists simply because every Religion has extremists.

I agree with you my friend, but its too late, most people, like us, who know that islam is evil have already lost. I actually have no words for it anymore either, but i am entirely on your side. We have too many people crying for the children who die everyday because of that religion that the truth is being watered down and tolerance of islam is being taught, when they (islam) still preach hatred, ie your question and the crazies who protested about the drawings of allah. Its too late and its sad.
