It's way too comercialised. It's been going that way for over 40 years now. I haven't celebrated the religious significance of it in more than 30 years.

Perhaps it is you who have lost sight of the true meaning of Christmas. Christmas hasn't lost its significance. It is the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
If you think it is all about the food and the gifts you receive, then I guess it doesn't feel the same as it once did. But it can if you share that food and those gifts with others. Help out at a homeless shelter and you will see the true meaning of Christmas in the eyes of those you help.

Because you're not a kid anymore. Kids are inherently selfish, so they get all squirmy with delight about getting presents. Then they get a little older and get all squirmy with delight about making and giving presents, imagining their mom going, "Oh, you made me this wreath? It's BEAUTIFUL!" or their best friend saying, "You remembered my favorite black and white movie! Wow!"
But as you get older, getting presents doesn't delight you, and giving someone the best present doesn't quite tickle your ego anymore.
Not to be sappy or anything, but I started volunteering in soup kitchens and sponsoring families and things a few years ago, when Yule lost a bit of its shine for me. It certainly helped get me back in the holiday spirit, and I try to do volunteer work year round, now. You'll be helping strangers, and some of those strangers will be children, who will still be all squirmy and giddy at receiving presents, and maybe then you can sort of see the holiday through their eyes again. Like watching a movie you've seen a billion times with someone who's never seen it--it feels fresher.

You are soooooo right! It doesn't! And I'v lost my christmas spirit for about 3 years now and it really depresses me. I used to love listening to christmas music. I was one of those christmas music NUTS! Couldn't get enough. Would drive everyone crazy playing it all the time. Some would even make me "sappy". But I just can't get it back. Maybe someday.

Because it is not as simple as it use to be. Now everything on TV is geared towards "selling you the best Christmas present for that special loved one" I is competition to make a lot of money.

seems as though the merchants are getting more and more greedy and the " reason for the season " has changed more over the years from the " Religious " to the " commercial " as the older generations die off or become less involved.

i think its not so much that Christmas changes, its that we do... and as we age, we feel diferently about it,,,,,,,yes on the one hand it seems more commercial, because we are exposed more to it,,,,,, but it was commerical back when i was young , which was over 40 years ago,,,,its just when we are younger, we dont see the commerical side of it so much,,,,,,

Because the world is becoming more and more ungodly and more believing in evolution and other such things than what use to keep families and hearts close to each other and to Jesus Christ.
