They just stand there even when the train is mostly empty but a lot of people are trying to get on. I sometimes say "thank you" to them when they are being very inconsiderate, but often those people are the type you don't want to talk to anyway. What else can be done?

There is nothing you can do about these people! I have been riding the subway for about 20 years and they have always been around!

You can try being polite and saying "Excuse me" or you can just push them aside and get off the train. It really depends on how much emotional energy you want to expend on thoughtless idiots.

Maybe they really don't know they are blocking the door. Subway riders should start a campaign to let them know. Just say "Excuse me, did you know you are blocking the door for the rest of the riders?" Perhaps it will bring a new level of awareness to the topic!

I don't know if your a small guy or what but look pissed off and say " excuse me" politely but firmly however with a Bernard Goetz kind of attitude like if this guy is going to not get out of the way you are going to drop everything and throw down. You have to be willing to look as if you are ready to do battle if necessary, that is the only thing that gets through to these guys. I am 6'3" and before I went on my diet I weighed in a 273 and I just created holes, not because of my size, because I am 200 now and I still do it, its because I know how to get where I am going. Just give the guy an angry glance and roughly say "excuse me" and walk right through the hole like and NFL running back, give the guy about half a second to move and then just walk through him if he gives you **** then tell him to get the f*** out of the way. You can always apologize and the next time maybe he'll learn some manners. FYI stock broker guy, learn how to defend yourself so you have a little confidence, it goes a long way.

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU ASKED THIS QUESTION. I just went through this same thing coming home.

What is the matter with these people? The funny thing is that it's always the people that can least afford to be walked over. Perhaps we could carry stickers of footprints and just slap one on their backs. LOL!!

I've decided I'm going to get one of those compressed air boat horns and just let it rip as I'm exiting the train.

I "accidentally" bump into them or let my bag/bags whack them as I get on. Sometimes I say "excuse me" as if it were an accident. When it's really crowded and tons of people are trying to get on, I push into them as if the people behind me are responsible until they are forced to move in.

Say, "Excuse me." If they don't move, you have no choice but to through the door with or without them in the way.

I say excuse me in a nice tone, and if they don't move, I push them, b/c i gave them a fair warning and was polite. Or if I have a large purse, i use it to shove them too-- if you don't like it, MOVE!!!!!!!!! These people piss me off like no other!

Try sneezing directly onto the back of their necks/jackets, I did this once by accident and left one black leather jacket pebble dashed by me, but I also noticed how quickly they gave me a bit more space after making me breath in the fumes from his pit beforehand. Try it, it works.
