The expression is used facetiously, since you either are or are not pregnant. It's used to say that the reality of the situation is clear and can't be undone. Example: You "nearly" totaled your car. That's like being a little bit pregnant.

maybe the woman is in denial, or going through medical problems that might end the pregnancy such as threatened abortion, or missed abortion where the fetus is already dead??
i hope the issue gets resolved soon and if she is actually pregnant gets a healthy baby.
