First im an American and there are a few things I wish to ask the British about your royal family.
First why is it that I see the prince wear all these military metals all over his jacket. It seems to me that he has never seen combat but he walks around like he was Rambo.
Second what does the queen do? Does she have any power? It seems to me that they are living off the British people and wasting your money? I may be wrong but I see it that way. It just seems like they are celebraties that get chases around by the news.
Third is there any groups in England that wants the royal family disolved?

The Royal Family bring in far more in tourism revenue than is spent on them.

I am not sure which prince you mean, Prince Phillip was in the navy and served in active service in World War II. Both Prince William and Prince Harry are soldiers, Prince Charles served in the Royal Navy for five years and is the Colonel-In-Chief for various military regiments.

Prince Edward served in the Royal Marines. Prince Andrew was active in the Falklands war of 1982.

It could be said that some of them did not see 'combat' but ..... neither did anyone else at that time since Britain was not involved in any wars when they were in active service.

What does the Queen do? She is an impartial figurehead for Britain and the Commonwealth. Unlike a president who would be partisan, the Queen stands up for all sides in the name of democracy, and she represents Britain across the world. She also does charity work and honours those who have fought wars.

There are anti-royalists in the United Kingdom, known as 'republicans' and there always have been. However, surveys have tended to show that most people do not support the abolition of the monarchy.

Well, I do not understand all the details of who and what within the British royal family, but I do know that whatever the case, something has worked to manage to maintain their sovereignty and democracy for a very, very long time. Look at the British history, and you might learn the definition of 'chaos' thru order.
When Diana was killed, God rest her soul, it was a punch in the face to all decent people, was it not? I am still bummed such a beautiful person could be lost the way she was...it was then that I began to understand it, the British people love them. And many are so attached to the ebb and flow of the royal family, that you could call it obsession-in a good way.
So no, I say even as an American and its none of my business or say, but I think they should keep tradition, or whatever you'd call it...I dig the royal family...they should stay in power.

There are many people in the UK that do not like the Moarchy. The Queen does have certain powers, eg she is the only person to be able to grant the Government permission to do what ever they see fit in an emergency instead of having to wait and push legislation through.
Which Prince do you mean? Some of the Royal family have served in the armed forces.

I'm not a royalist but I do have a problem with the argument that they are living off the tax payer. I hate to break it to you, but the royal family actually pay taxes just like everyone else. In addition to this, they are a lot of the reason foreign tourists visit London so they contribute greatly to the wealth of the British tourist industry. All the money they 'sponge,' of the tax payer is therefore repaid.

The Prince wears those medals because he has got into the Army and the Queen is the head of the Commonwealth and in charge of the military.I agree with you that they do waste our money and yes i would like to see them go but i don't know if there are any groups that want them gone.

"Dave Stewart" summed it up very well & I agree with him 100%. I'm Canadian and a Socialist so I'm not that big a supporter of Canada remaining in the Commonwealth. Having said that, I'm very proud of the Queen's present representative, " Govenor General Michelle Jean. She is presently on a stste visit to Africa. Her Excellancy, who is Afro-Canadian, was born in Haiti and came to Canada as a refugee as a child. She truly represents all Canadians, unlike a Pres. who merely represents the adherants of his political party. We have a Prime Minister , such as he is, to do that. If I chose to move to the UK, I would Support the Royal Family- "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

The royal family is a very lucrative tourist attraction as well as great fodder for the tabloids. The tabloids definitely couldn't survive without them.
