There are different types of rounhouse kicks. Various martial arts have somewhat different delivery of kicks.
Say, in a taekwondo match, you must kick deliver the roundhouse kick quickly. Leverage for power is sacrificed inorder to get the kick quickly to the target. But in kickboxing, you must get leverage from your kicks. Its like a haymaker with your feet.
These are the steps...
Taekwondo roundhouse:
1) Assume stance with more the powerful leg at the rear side. (assume an orthodox stance )
2) Raise the right foot, pointing the the right knee on the target.
3) As you extend your right leg, pivot the your left foot counterclockwise consequently turning your trunk to the target now hitting the head of opponent with your right instep in the event of the complete leg extension.
In Kickboxing:
Almost the same but the kicking leg is swung wider or from the outside.

1) you must chamber your foot parallel to the ground & out to the side.
2) Lean back as you are kicking.
3) Pivot on your plant foot. At the end, your plant heel should be pointing at the target.
4) Start the kick from your hips & then snap your knee.
5) Contact must be with the ball of your foot.
6) Your foot must move horizontally.
7) your heel should be level with your toes.
If this doesn't work, email me a video of you kicking.

you first bring your back leg up to about belt high in front of your body. then rotate your hip the opposite way of the leg thats up. your foot on the floor should be facing backwards. then extend the leg out fully kicking with the instep of your foot (the top of your foot). you sould be kicking to the solarplexus level (under ribs, above abs). it should be done fast. Hope i explained it good enough.

just make sure you lift your knee high enough so that when you pivot, your foot strikes above the wasteline. Also, keep your arms in tight (don't flap them around).
