A SCHOOL headmaster was branded a killjoy yesterday after he ordered pupils to stop HUGGING each other.
He told teens to quit embracing because it made them late for lessons.
He said hugging could be deemed “inappropriate” and “victims” could be hugged against their will.
Headmaster said: “Hugging was happening extensively and becoming the norm. We were worried it might become inappropriate. So we nipped it in the bud.”
He added that there had been complaints from some pupils — so he told the kids: “This is very serious not only for the victim but for anyone accused of acting inappropriately.
“To avoid putting anyone at risk, please avoid hugging.” But the ban outraged parents and pupils at the 1,250-pupil college, with some claiming they had been punished for illegal hugs.

NO way- hugging should not be banned.
What harm is it doing?!!
If people want to hug each other it's nobodies buisness but there own. I can understand no kissing as it isn't so nice to see other people kissing each other in front of you while all you are trying to do is get your bag.
But hugging is just a sign of friendship- and should NOT be banned!

To hug or not to hug that is the question, or is it?
The real issue as I see it:
Too many people are showing too much affection at school. It used to be that there was a quick kiss as students had to depart and go to their own classes. Now days there is french kissing etc. making others uncomfortable.
There is also the concern amoung teachers and administrators that if they don't stop PDAs that they, or the school, or the school district might have law suits filed against them.
All of the above being said, I believe that a quick hug from a friend should be allowed. It would be nice if the person that is giving the hugs were to ask, the first couple of times, each person if they would like a hug.
Obviously this could go to far with everyone going around asking everyone if they want a hug and if that were to happens administrators might ban hugging for that issue alone.
What about the student that is more sensitive and a hug might help that person to be able to deal with whatever has upset them. There was the time when teachers could give students a quick hug to help them feel better or as part of saying Good Job. Now days though a hug from a teacher to a student and the teacher could have a sexual harrasment charge filed. Either by the student that was hugged, and/or their parents, or by other students that felt threatened.

OH NO!
Hugging was happening extensively and becoming the Norm. We were worried it might become inappropriate!!!
We would not want people to actually care for each other and to express it and become the norm!!
The headmaster must be out of their mind. She\he needs to get a big hug and get a grip!
As long as it is just a hug and nothing more , they should welcome this .. better than getting picked on and bullied!
If everyone's grades improved would they assume everyone is cheating?
Wait for signs of inappropriate behavior, then take the appropriate action.

Hugging will only be done by the willing. School is there for learning and should be respected in such a way. However, there are times when teenagers feel abandon, hopeless, etc, and their peers are the ones that help with the tough times. No offense, but this is especially true with girls. And in this instance, there is no wrong with hug. Now on the other end of it, if hugging is used for something other than what was mentioned, (copping a feel) than it shouldn't be allowed.

These teachers really have got their knickers twisted up. Of course it should not be banned. Whatever for? I have a daughter who is a teacher, and oh. dear, oh. dear. Just believe that we do not discuss teaching when she comes home periodically. It is a sad sad world if we have to give up hugging, and kissing. I can only think that this headmaster is very deprived, and an odd way of looking at the world we live in. I certainly feel sorry for his partner/wife/girlfriend, although with that attitude he probably has none of those, and that is his problem.

Although I half-understand the reason for the ban, the reasons are weak and forced. This guy chose the wrong activity to get outraged about.
And what happens when the student give a mass protest and all hug someone between thiord and fourth period? Will you ban the entire school?
He has stepped into it and will not hear the end of it

Of course, as should smiling, laughing and generally being human. Unless of course schools do not actually want to produce robots but actually wish mould people that are outgoing, happy and forward-thinking socially aware people that do not have a problem communicating in the real world outside of the politically correct domain of the dictatorial headmaster ... but surely that would just be madness.
PS. - Children should be allowed to be children, then told what the actions mean, not try and repress them or turn them against those in authority by that authority acting like a spoilt idiot.

Ban Hugging!!!!!!!!! This is madness. Hugging is a natural human characteristic to show love and friendliness. If that is banned then we are to go against the natural human feelings. This will create resentment and anger and thus create more problems of a greater dimension than it will solve.
Best of Luck Head Master for all the headache you will have in future

Yup. I agree. Touching should be made illegal as well. Maybe learning too... while we're on the subject, here's a list of what else should be made illegal; 1) Everything. Where will this foolishness end? Hugging??? Can they actually ban this? It's a bit like saying "We're making breathing underwater ILLEGAL for fish!" It probably should get rated as 'stupidest comment of the month'...

French kissing I can kind of understand because sometimes it's very disturbing. BUT hugging? That's pretty stupid. It's so sad if your not able to talk to your boyfriend as much during school and it's sweet when they hug and everything. I think the headmaster is crazy.
