The Glass Bead Game which was printed in 1943 in Switzerland, for this work among his others, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1946, I would say that he has enormous wisdom.

Even though he was financial successful, he suffered emotionanlly throughout his life with the death of his father on March 8, 1916, the difficult sickness of his son Martin, and his wife's schizophrenia. He was forced to leave his military service and begin receiving psychotherapy. This began for Hesse a long preoccupation with psychoanalysis, through which he came to know Carl Jung personally, and was challenged to new creative heights: , thats where he began to question things around him and to try and find himself.

The ill-adjusted to the world is ill-adjusted to himself alone and not to the world because he is of the world and the world is not of him. One who is adjusted to the world needn't find himself because he is the world.

"Beware any one who claims to be wise." Hermann Hesse. You didn't have any wisdom to teach. Hesse might have but he was just making a joke with no real depth to it.
