finasteride really work for baldness?

I know someone with a bald spot in the back of his head that used it. He only grew a little bit of fine hair in the back.

It may help you keep it if you haven't lost it all though. I would talk to your doctor about it if you are curious, he/she may be able to tell you if it is worth it or not.
