It is definitely not a good thing....whale has been already classfied as an endangered species....thus it should be given extra care and effort to conserve these species so that it wont come to extinction....The countries which allows hunting and eating whales are very irresponsible and inconsiderate abt environmental issues..

People in the Artic (natives) have been doing it long before we all came along, they never waste a single part of the animal and it is a staple in their diet. Growing their own vegetables and raising chickens is not an option when it is -60C. Now killing them for aphrodisiacs and perfume that's another thing.

whale, cow, same thing, one might be more majestic but I'm sore if you followed a cow into a slaughter house you might not like the outcome of that either, we are conditioned to not care so much about how our food gets to our plate be we are the top of the food chain, but i would hate to see the extinction of any animal for the sake of over populating this world we us, its going to happen, then we might need cows as big as a whale to feed us all

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, animals are considered to have immortal spirits, similar to the way that human beings have immortal spirits. Like humans and plants, animals are considered to have been created first in Heaven, as spirits, and then manifested physically on Earth.[1]

As with human beings, animals' purpose in life is to have Joy in their own sphere of existence. (See Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp 291-292.)

All Presidents of the Church, from Joseph Smith and Brigham Young to the present, have taught that animals are to be treated with kindness and respect, and that hunting for "sport" is wrong. (See article "Animals" in Encyclopedia of Mormonism 1992.) President Joseph F. Smith wrote: I do not believe any man should kill animals or birds unless he needs them for food, and then he should not kill innocent little birds that are not intended for food for man. I think it is wicked for men to thirst in their souls to kill almost everything which possesses animal life. It is wrong, and I have been surprised at prominent men whom I have seen whose very souls seemed to be athirst for the shedding of animal blood.” (Gospel Doctrine, pp. 265-66.)

I think that animals that are used for food should be replaced by the user. If they can't breed them, they shouldn't hunt and eat them.
