They are culturally very similar, apart from an enjoyment of different sports, and of course the French speaking part of Canada. The economy in Australia is and has been for quite some time stronger than Canada's, and the climate is obviously warmer in Australia. Other than that I don't think it makes much difference, both countries are very multicultural (Australia the highest in the world, Canada the second). Both countries have similar migration policies, you must pass a points test based on education and work experience, health and English language ability. In terms of which country is the best to live in, my advice is to consider what you do for a living, how far you are willing to be from your former home, friends and family, and what you might want in your future. Australia has it's negatived like all countries. The housing market is becoming more unaffordable, our country in in year round drought which is the worst on record, and we are having a water crisis resulting from the drought. Though, Australians have made tremendous efforts to save water and because of this and some much needed rain, our dams have risen in their water levels. Australia has a great education program across the nation and world class universities and teaching colleges, we also have great healthcare. Our working environments are some of the best in the world, with several weeks paid maternity leave, paid holidays and long service leave, days off with full pay and overtime available for employees. The 2007 World Developmental Report put out by the United Nations, rated Australia 3rd on the list behind Norway and Iceland. Canada was 6th, America 8th and Britain was 18th. We have a clean environment with our coastlines being some of the cleanest water and beaches you could imagine. Great living in all of the six cities plus great outer communities to raise a family. These rankings are based on education, healthcare, amount of foreign aide given, life expectancy and the building of the capabilities of women. All of these, and other guidelines, equal to the HDI or Human Developmental Index. Where violence such as homicides are an issue, Australia is recorded at a rate of 1.8 per year, Canada is 2.0, United States is 4.8 and Britain is 1.6. The life expectancy in Australia is 81 years of age, in Canada it is 79 years of age. All in all, both are great countries to live in. It depends on what you need and want, ie: childcare for your kids, a job to transfer to and distance from relatives. Either place would be great to live, and racism is very low in both places. P.S. For someone coming from a hot country like Kuwait I believe it will be hard adjusting to Canada's freezing climate. If you're a weather sensitive person and strictly prefer warmer weather, then look no further than Australia.

I had been to both countries, Canada & Australia. I found Canada is far superior place to live in for Immgrants. The recent example of Australian's racial abuse is when Sharad Pawar, our hon'ble Agriculture minister was thrown by Australian Cricketers during the photo session, after they won the cup in India.

Canada is probably more accepting that Australia - or New Zealand is another option...

I like to think of New Zealand as the less brash and nicer version of Australia as Canada is to the USA

I am Canadian (white) and while yes there is some discrimination here against Natives it is not wide spread and few and far between. Canada is not a melting pot but more a tossed salad where we all have our own flavour but blend wonderfully. We do our best to welcome everyone and allow some of your culture into ours, allowing all our lives to be enriched.

I think the racial abuse can be found in both countries, U.S.A, New Zealand or any other country that accepts immigrants.
