Anything is more appetising when it's what you truly want to eat. If you find things not to your taste, then maybe you need to re-think your diet...

I love mixing textures and tastes. Fresh steamed, cooled broccoli florets and carrot discs; carefully mix together with finely sliced spring onion, small Julienne slices of red and yellow bell pepper - glaze veggies with balsamic vinegar and a few drops of olive oil - spoon over a platter of al dente pasta of your choice (I use linguine or bow tie pasta). This makes a wonderfully crisp, sweet, tangy and crunchy cold pasta dish that veg and non-veg's enjoy! Great in the hot summer, lovely and comforting in the winter when you miss the warm weather.
Certain herbs lend a great deal when finishing steamed dishes. Adding them, freshly chopped, just before service is best. All the natural flavors are intact and robust.
Lemon is one of the best additives to steamed veggies known. Butter is also a complement if you aren't vegan.

I don't do anything but steam my veggies and I love them and I am NOT a vegetarian.
I reckon most people over steam their veggies, they keep far more flavour if they have just started to go soft. That is when you should get them off the water and onto your plate.
Once on the plate you can add lemon juice to nearly all the veggies to bring out the taste, you could also try orange or lime juice - what ever you have around the place.
A bit of butter also adds some flavour and some onion or garlic salt and freshly ground pepper.
Or you could use some of the ready made salad dressings (from the supermarket) to spice things up.
You can buy squeeze bottles of cheese to add to your veggies.
If you are really energetic you can make white sauce or cheese sauce, hollandaise or Bearnaise sauce, what ever takes your fancy.
If it is not veggies but meat - a good gravy/sauce made from the meat water will add flavour.
Use some imagination or search the web for ideas - they are everywhere.

do you eat cheese on your vegan diet? I love steamed vegetables with cheese melted on top..
I also like pan roasted vegetables.. I lightly steam them (5 min or so) then I toss them in a bowl with a bit of olive oil, crushed garlic, italian spices, salt, pepper, and a bit of flour.. I put them on a baking tray in oven and bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes, till they turn golden.. They taste wonderful this way... I use these for pita sandwiches...
Also something else I love, is to steam zuccini, whole tiny onions(or cut a large onion only in 4ths) 1 garlic bud, cut a tomato in 4ths, and some cauliflower pieces.. steam or braise in little water with some veggie boullon stock cubes and after about 15min.. add some italien spice and parmason cheese powder.. I eat this like soup...

Thats really like saying " How can I make boiled, fried, raw, whatever, food taste more appetizing? ". It depends what your steaming doesnt it. If your steaming brussel sprouts...well I cant help you. But if you were steaming carrots, I'd say honey, or butter/or veg equiv, salt & pepper. If your steaming vegetarian dim sum I'd say vego soy sauce.

The whole point with steaming vegetables is that they keep their flavour so much better than if they're boiled. So I think steamed vegetables taste lovely without doing anything to them!

Without additional salt, you can make steamed food tasty by adding paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, oregano, and cumin seeds while food is cooking. After cooking and when plating up, add lots of fresh herbs, rougly torn or chopped.

There are a variety of spices that can enhance the flavor such as garlic, parsley, sage, cayenne, sea salt, lemon, and if you don't want butter (which is good too) you can add a tablespoon of olive oil with your spices to mix it in.

i use lots of chili and garlic. Sesame seeds are great too...
I often grind up seeds and sprinkle over steamed veg for extra crunch and nutrition. For me the key is spice and heat....spicy food make you feel more satisfied and is more tasty IMO!
Also if you like broccoli a dribble of balsamic vinegar over it is lovely....
