Do you have any friends/relations that have cats? Maybe you could visit them, stroke and spend time with the cat, and see if the symptoms get worse or not?

Allergies are tricky things. Some people have allergies for life; some only develop them as they age and some (like my husband) have childhood allergies that disappear as they age.

Likewise, allergy tests are not 100% accurate, but they are useful reference. Talk to your doctor about them.

In the meantime, find someone to watch your cat and leave for the weekend. Go someplace where there are no cats and see if you feel any differently. That may give you a clue. (Note, just giving your cat to someone else to watch while you stay home will give you an accurate impression because there is cat fur and dander in your house).

Frequent vacuuming and sweeping will help keep the amount of dander in check. Also, an indoor air purifier with a hepa filter will help. You can also buy a solution (I've used "AllgergiPet-C") that you pour on a washcloth and wipe your cat down with once a week or so, that helps control the dander.

Go to an allergist and tell them you need to be specifically tested for allergy to cat dander.
