I am thinking of giving it a go . It is mainly eating hight protein foods & cutting out carbs. If anyone has tried it did you have enough energy to get through the day and did it help you loose weight. I am not overweight by much, i just need to loose a bit around the mid section after having a baby.

I have been on Atkins for over 2 years now. Totally love this way of eating. It isn't a diet however but one must decide before embarqing on this journey if they wish to stop their yo-yoing and finally find a solution to being over weight. It is possible you know but only if you read the book and decide this is a forever way of eating.

If you read his book you will suddenly realize how much sense he makes. It really works and it isn't boring. I lost 50 pounds and have kept it off with ease and love the fact that I can go to my closet and get anything out of it and know it will fit.

Please do not start this without reading the book. It's not just about High protein and cutting out carbs. The induction is the strictest of the time of limiting foods. If you plan on going on this then going off once you lose you weight don't bother. You will gain it back. But this can be said for all plans to lose weight.

Check out this website if you do plan on going on Low Carb regardless of which plan you choose.

http://www.lowcarbfriends.com This site has been a godsend for me and my husband who by the way lost 80 and has kept it off. And we eat. If you just knew how much we eat you would be shocked. No limiting portions, no worry about low fat tasteless foods, but just not eating high carb items.

Do know however that all foods have carbs except meat. It about the high content of the carbs and how it affects the blood sugar. Remember naturally white foods are ones to watch, potato's, rice, sugar, white flour etc. These are horribly high carb items plus corn (not a vege but a grain)

I've been on the Atkins for 6 months now and I've lost 50 pounds (from 290 to 240), it works as long as you stick with it. In that time I've went on one trip to Vegas and went off the diet for a week, amazingly in that single week I gained 12 pounds, however more amazing when I restarted the diet when I got home I lost the same 12 pounds in 4 days (really). At this time, 6 months in, I've basically hit a wall however which is common of any diet. I'm down to only losing maybe a pound every 2 weeks, which is way slower than in the past. However for me the diet is fairly easy to stay on since I like to eat mostly meat. The big thing about the diet is you can not cheat, not even a tiny amount - and if you stay in induction (20 carbs or less a day) you'll lose weight faster. Get yourself some keto sticks and start checking to see if the diet is working after about 3 or 4 days, the nice thing about the Atkins is it's easy to know how well you're doing on it using the Keto sticks. For me the Atkins is also good because I'm simply not hungry and I don't lack energy (which you shouldn't since you're getting a ton of protein from the meat). Also it's great to order up 10 hotwings and drink a large lite beer and have that be considered a "healthy" meal (it works for me). Be warned however, there is a sevre lack of side dishes on this diet - no potatoes, pasta, bread, etc. - and for whatever reason in my experiences women have a much harder time sticking to the diet than men. Hope that helps and good luck.

I've been doing Atkins for a year and a half now. So far I've lost 40 pounds and lost a whole bunch of health problems too. I highly recommend it as the healthiest way to eat. But yes, do read the book carefully so that you know how to do it correctly and how it works. It is not a "diet" it is a lifestyle.

I would go for the South Beach diet. It is high protien, but much lower in fat.
