My fiance and I are planning a June '07 wedding and still cannot find a reception site. We want a site on Lake MI as close to the beach as possible...indoor or outdoor, that can accommodate around 150 people. I am starting to worry, because the available websites have few listings in SW Michigan. I would appreciate any suggestions, because I am out of state and am planning a wedding near family.

You might find what you're looking for through one of these sites:
That's a beautiful area and I'm sure you'll find something.

You might also want to consider checking with the area parks and preserves, sometimes they have places you can host events at.

Here's a link to the State of Michigan's DNR website that has a map of the counties of Michigan, if you click on the county you're interested in it should give you info on any state parks in the area that might be able to accomodate you.
http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/parkmap.aspx
(for example I clicked on Van Buren County and chose the Van Buren State park and it gave info that there are park picnic shelter areas that can be reserved for events. It also provides contact info for the park so you could get more details.

You can also try the chamber of commerce in whichever area you're looking in, if they don't have info online then give them a call and they should be able to get you brochures or contact info on local places for weddings and other events.

http://www.michamber.com/ The statewide Chamber of Commerce Website, they should have links to the chambers in the areas you're interested in.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Enjoy! And congrats on your upcoming wedding too!

One of the nicest banquet halls for a traditional, banquet hall reception is the Royalty House of Troy... just google or search it on the yellow pages... it's very elegant and the inside is just as nice as the outside. For a more budget concious place for a reception is Club Venetian in Madison Heights... it's not the biggest or most glamourous place, but it's very budget-oriented and if you're not looking to spend a massive fortune on the hall, this would be a good choice.

My daughter was married in Bad Axe at the old Church, 150 years old and the reception and the local Eagles, there were about 200 people there but alas, no drinking, surprising when a pole was taken, no one drank. You can believe that on not. Maybe, good luck....see the mayor.
