has anyone experieced any problems with the handbrake? one of my drivers has reported twice he's left the car with the handbrake on and turned around to find the car moving off. he is certain that he put the handbrake on (the second time def) VW maintain nothing is wrong with the vehicle so i'm just wondering if anyone else has expereiced this?

sorry, this isn't one of the pull up handbrakes, its one where you push a button? (sorry can't be more technical than that)

I believe that this was a common fault and that VW recalled a lot of cars. I would suggest that you contact VW customer services at their UK head office in Milton Keynes.

I had a problem on the hand brake on my passat i found the teeth on the top part where very small well it only had 3 and the part you pull up is very flexible and can jump off if its only in contact one side.I would take the rubber cover off an have a look at its contact surface, what sort of movement it has side to side i found mine could jump out sideways sometimes,so tightened the rivet up to stop the movement.

i had a vw golf 1.9 tdi (52 plate) and that did the same thing. it was lucky i turned round to look one day coz it was rolling off down a hill

is there a light that tells you if the hand brake is on if not
take it to the dealers and try it on their forecourt in front of
the plate glass window if it fails and rolls in they can't say there is no problem.
