How wonderful it would be if we did everything we knew was good for us. Humans by nature like to defy their fate and if they don't take small risks, they wouldn't feel in control enough. Also, we by nature procrastinate and pile up the bad things we shouldn't do, like smoking, binging, sunbathing at noon... then we feel more free. It's all an illusion but we require a lot of self discipline to overcome it. We have to keep our eyes on the future, that's all. It's very important that we teach out kids to bare up the consequences of their actions. If they see the link and realize their control over the outcome of things, then they're likely to keep a tight cause and effect agenda that will save them often from that "it won't happen to me" attitude. If your behavior is contrary to what your mind believes in, then you need to try and find congruence between the 2. Your behavior is a result of your beliefs, so change your beliefs and your behavior will follow.

Because there are other things you want to do more. you have the time, you're on YA. You have the notion that meditating is work, like exercise, we know both are good for us but they're not fun. So you need to change your mind set. If you really want to meditate, you said it helps you so let's assume you want to do it. First stop looking at it as a chore, let's look at it as taking a break. Then let's see what time of day suits you best, I like first thing in the morning, for two reasons. Doing it first opens my mind, gets me relaxed, focuses me. Second, if I get on YA or whatever play time I'm into, I tend to lose track of time, then there are things that must be done and I have to get to those.
So, set a time first thing in the morning. If you have to go to work, get up half an hour early. Not sure how you do your meditating, but 5 minutes deep breathing 20 minutes meditating, 5 minutes deep breathing make it 30. And you do it the same as you do everything else in the morning, but this is a reprieve from duty, you're easing yourself into the day.
Same for the evening session, don't know your schedule but a nice break works at about 4 for me and then I'm in a good mood when everyone gets home, makes for a relaxed evening.

Maybe it doesn't in fact help you as much as you think that it does. Being told for a long time what a marvelous thing meditation is, I believed it, but that truth is it doesn't work for me. It's feels like a chore, so after a thousand hours spend on forcing myself to sit and do it I just quit and moved on. It's boring, admit it.

learning to meditate takes time to do it properly, but once you have mastered it, it can be the most rewarding thing you can ever do for yourself, it helps re-charge and re-energise you.
Fear can be a terrible thing and that it what i think is holding you back.
Go for it you will feel a whole lot better if you do

1 of 2 reasons...
Either you don't want to be helped...
Or meditating scares you because things happen beyond your control.

There could be lots of reasons on why you don't do it:
maybe you are just plain lazy, too occupied, or too
impatient to see the results...you can do your meditation
as long as you feel it is helping you...

Because your a stupid fool! Some people, maybe yourself, wallow in self-pity, crave attention in Any Form. Get with the program and take your medicine, until it is completed! If you don't, straight to bed and NO supper. Mother has spoken.

Probably because you suffer from something that most of us do: impatience.
Meditation requires focus and patience. Most of us don't have that level of patience. We all want a quick fix.
