I want to make my heart extrememly healthy and strong and I want to be constantly making it work hard, is there any limit to how much I can do this? does it need to rest much?

Let your doc do a stress test to determine your over-all fitness level, along with heart/chest xrays and listening to your lungs.

your heart is like any other muscle in your body it needs to rest. You should alternate between cardio and muscle failure. Do muscle failure (pushups, situps, weight training) 2x a week and cardio 3x. Then rest the other 2 days...or not really rest, but take it easy :) As far as duration per day. Once you reach your target heart rate keep it there for 30 min then cool down. That should do the trick!

good for you! yes there is a limit like with everything there is always a limit, depending on your age and fitness level and the level of cardio exercise you do, the maximum should be 30mins to 2 hours but remember often its the quality not the quantity of exercise you do so if you don't have enough time try working out for a shorter time but make it intensive and tough.
