also as saturday is the sabbath does the entire country shut down. if so what is there to do on saturdays in isreal

if it tells you anything I got along in Israel for over a year almost completely on English. Granted you will have to pay more but such is the cost.

as for Saturday buses and city services are shut down, but you can still get taxis and many restaurants and other places are still open.

You should be able to get around in English for the most part! As for the Sabbath, only in places like Jerusalem and other religious villages, everything will close down. In Jerusalem there are still busses and cars on the road though.

English is spoken very well in Israel. I got by speaking only English and a tad bit of Hebrew and Arabic. People may not be able to respond to you in English, but they will understand. Also, speaking English will get you in trouble money wise, the nationals will trick you into spending more money than what is neccessary.

first of all, it's ISRAEL (not isreal)
and yes, most people speak very good English,
plus there are alot of anglo's here.
only jerusalem is really quiet on saturday,
Tel-aviv is happening 24/7 and so are other cities!

JERUSALEM CLOSES DOWN...BUT U CAN STILL GET AROUND BY TAXI...ITS NOT SO HARD, IF ANYTHING, A LITTLE QUIETER. ENGLISH IS SPOKEN BY MANY MANY PEOPLE THERE. EVEN THE HARDCORE ISRAELIS- I WAS JUST THERE FOR A YR AND I GOT BY IN TOTAL ENGLISH- NO PROBLEM...GOOD LUCK, AND IF U DECIDE TO NOT WANT TO LEAVE THE BEST LAND ON EARTH....U GO GIRL!

Yeah, most Israelis can speak English. They study it in their schools as kids. Most can speak at least some English. You'll be fine. I was there in 2000 and got by with English.

they don't know how to speak english.those who do pronounce everything as if they're talking something from outer space ,once it took me an hour to know that a guy is saying where can i find "a" restaurant!!!
