"One was even recorded with a 3-iron! That one was made by Shaun Lynch, playing at Teign Valley Golf Club in Christow, England, in 1995, on the 496-yard No. 17. According to a 2004 article in Golf World magazine, Lynch aimed straight toward the green on a horseshoe par-5, clearing a 20-foot-high hedge, then hitting a downslope on the other side. The downslope carried his ball to the green and into the cup".

To my knowledge it has never happened , at least on any of the pro tours where records are kept.
I suppose it is possible though since the minimum requirement for distance on a par 5 is 450 yards and there have been drives longer then that.

what tony m says is all true, not sure what club he used, i am a member at teign valley the hole is a long 496 yard, dog leg par 5, i also belive that this hole in one is recorded in the guinness book of records, the course layout has changed since that glorious day it is now the 8th not the 17th though

The feat actually has been done. On Nov. 15, 1962, Larry Bruce took his drive over a stand of scrawny pines on the 480-yard dogleg right par-5 fifth hole at Hope (Ark.) CC and was a local legend until he died in 2001
