Hi Rajeev. According to your budget i would suggest you to for either Indica Turbo DLX which is a top end model in Indica family or Indigo LX. Both are practical cars and offer decent value for money.
Indica Turbo is a very good car. Has oodles of power, space, legroom and gets you best average in the segment. You can get 14 to 16 in city and 18 to 22 on highway. The Indicas turbo engine is same as Indigos but with some modifications. You get 68ps of turbo power and over 130NM of torque. So you are assured driving on highways will be a breeze. Looks wise Indica looks pretty good. Also weighs over a ton, so you can be assured of the cars stability over high speeds.
All in all Indica Turbo is a good performer considering Indian conditions and offers true value for money.

Also you can look at the new Indigo LX. Looks cool, way ahead from old Indigos. Has a refined engine, 1400CC Turbo charged with 70PS of turbo power and over 135NM of torque. I think you will have to shell out 20K more to get an Indigo.
I suggest you to take a test drive before deciding.

Also Swift DDIS[ Diesel] is going to hit Indian market in Jan or Feb 2007. If you can wait till the time, it would be worth buying Swift. But as of know, i know it will be going to cost 60K more than the petrol models. Lets wait and see.
If any query then plz revert.

Cheers,
Jay

If that is your maximum on-road price, then your choices are limited to variants of Tata's bread and butter Indicas. I would suggest picking up the Turbo DLG. It comes with about 68hp (after turbo). If you can stretch your budget to about 5.5 on road, you can get the indigo, a very practical sedan. It has the same turbo engine turning out 70hp (after turbo).

Dont expect any driving pleasure. Both cars are very very underpowered for their size and weight, until the turbo kicks in at a higher RPM.

Maruti Alto 800 is best in this segment. I am using Maruti Alto LXi last four years & fully satisfied. From & to Kathgodam Railway Station to Nainital, most taxi drivers use Alto.
