I would like to know if anyone has taken the anti obesity drug Xenical (also known as Orlistat). How did you find it? Was it effective in helping you lose weight? What sort of side effects did you have?
Any information on this would be greatfully recieved.

I would just like to point out, that I am considering Xenical as last resort - I have a medical condition that effects my weight control and have been down many other routes before even considering diet drugs! Trust me, this desision is not being taken lightly and is entirely at the advice of my GP! Hence why I am asking for people's experiences on this drug. Thanks

I took if for about a week but had to stop. Even though I cut down on the fats I was eating I still had the gastric upsets ( read that as nevr go more than 10 feet from a rest room!).
My friend took it and had none of the side effects and lost almost 3 stone without too much difficulty. So it really is different for different people....;

i never took any drugs to lose weight so i won't talk about my personal experience , i try my best to control my diet and excercise rather than take drugs unless it's absolutely necessary by a physician
i think it would be easier for you to lose weight the old fashioned way by eating less and exercising more , and BTW xenical isn't a shortcut. it may help with losing weight but has some side effects which would be a bit embarrassing if you go out a lot as it may cause bowel incontinence and flatulence
you should also take a multivitamin table because xenical blocks absorption of fat and fat soluble vitamins
keep in mind all drugs have side effects , and if it doesn't then it's not a drug
pls don't take xenical unless advised by a physician such as to aid in controlling diseases e.g. dyslipidemia , and if you still insist on spending your time and money make sure you get it after seeing a physician
good luck

I took xenical a few years ago and know several people who have also tried it. It is fine for short term use ~ you have to watch your fats intake or the side effects are not very pleasant. It can cause loose stools. I used it alongside weightwatchers for a while and it did boost my weightloss. However after a short while like every diet I failed. It certainly was no wonder drug! I was over 20 stones, type 2 diabetic and desperate. I had weightloss surgery (duodenal switch) on the NHS in Feb 2004 and it changed my life. I have lost in excess of 10 stones, the diabetes has gone and I now work full-time. Previously I hadn't worked for years!! I wish i could have done it on my own and not gone to such extreme measures. I have absolutely no regrets though. back to the question.....Use the Xenical as a tool and work with it ~ don't expect an overnight wonder drug as you will be disappointed. I wish you luck!

The primary side effects of the drug are gastrointestinal-related. Side effects are most severe within the first year of therapy. Because orlistat's main effect is to prevent dietary fat from being absorbed, the fat is excreted unchanged in the feces and so the stool may become oily or loose. Increased flatulence is also common. Bowel movements may become frequent or urgent. Rare occurrence of fecal incontinence have been seen in clinical trials. To minimize these effects, foods with high fat content should be avoided.
The absorption of fat-soluble vitamins are inhibited by the use of orlistat. A multivitamin tablet containing these vitamins (D, E, A and beta-carotene) should be taken once a day, at least 2 hours before or after taking the drug.
Despite claims that orlistat increases the risk of breast cancer amongst clinicial trial participants, there is evidence to suggest that the introduction of specific varied preparations containing Orlistat can induce cell death in tumor cells and block their growth. [6]
A recent animal study addressed a connection orlistat shares with aberrant crypt foci (ACF) in the colon, which is believed to be one of the earliest precursors of colon cancer
plus you get a side effect called "tangoing" when you go to the loo its a runny orange poo as its strpping your stomach lineing and if your not at the loo in 2 sec`s of needed its time too change the underware

I knew someone who took it and her poo was like orange slime - sorry to be so graphic but apparently it's the fat content of your food which is expelled - and she needed to go without warning. Her weight loss was no more accelerated than if she'd followed a decent diet plan like Slimming World, which she did end up doing as the side effects of the drug were too debilitating. Through SW she lost all the weight she needed to healthily and just as quickly. The weight has stayed off too. I'd think twice before doing anything so drastic. If you are determined to lose weight there are far easier and less traumatic ways of doing so. Good luck x x

Xenical is an oral- prescription diet pill that can ensure people to loose weight and keep off from their extra body mass. Xenical diet pill works in our digestive system by jamming one third of the fat in the food we consume from being digested. In general, doctor prescribes three doses a day to get the desired result. A blend of controlled diet, workout and Xenical medication is a sure sort-way to attain fruitful weight loss. In accordance to the clinical trials about 30% of our fat is burnt each time we intake Xenical.
A multivitamin supplement is usually recommended daily before or after taking the pill when on Xenical treatment. This happens because Xenical diet drug interferes with our body's absorption of certain fat-soluble multivitamins.
You may witness some side effects such as changes in bowel routine during the first week of its usage. These changes may also consist of gas with oily discharge, increase in the number of bowel movements. The reason being that Xenical obstructs the assimilation of dietary fat. It is always recommended to consult your doctor before you embark upon.

A girl I work with was just talking about that before she got off. I am not sure, I am just kinda skeptical about drugs that help you lose weight. They have got to be taking other things away along with the weight. But whatever you do, just do some research and make sure it is safe, good luck :)
