Hunting with a crossbow is illegal in the UK under Section 11 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and under Section 4 of the Deer Act 1991.

but it is against the law to own a crossbow and use it upon your own privet property as long as you are over 18. I believe that if a person is allowed to own one then if they do a course for hunting and it is for sole purpose for food and not for sport and get a licence to this effect and if in breach of licence then the holder should be found and a stiff prison sentence enforced. I see it so in some countries so why not in UK.

Depends what you are hunting, my guess would be if you holed a few children you might be breaking the law. You can carry a bow and arrow legally in your local highstreet due to an old law, but you need a licence for a cross bow.

no you cannot. crossbows and longbow hunting is illegal. you can shoot targets over land that you have permission to be on. or you may find yourself in prison and a hefty fine.
