Please someone help me before I go mentally insane...My partner & I got a kitten a year ago and i've always been strict about where it sleeps etc as i have very sensitive skin and i seem to constantly have flea bites (which are scarring me) even though my cat is treated for them. my partner is totally not respecting of this and although i have asked many a time for him not to let her sleep on the bed he still does and lies about it. i also can't stand its food on our plates which he still does even though i've bought the cat its own. agh! i am now 7 months pregnant and i just want to re-home the cat as it's making my life a misery worrying about it all the time and also about my baby. i just can't love this cat. have i developed some kind of pregnant woman protection instinct thing? please help... i cant even stroke it anymore and it's causing problems in my relationship.

you sure are getting bent out of shape over a cat. It sounds like all your problems are psychological and you have shut the cat out of your life mentally. Since you now are beyond accepting the cat and have replaced it with your own offspring I suggest separating from your partner and his cat. They will both be better off in the long run and you wont have to worry about imaginary fleas and sharing of food.

I don't think it's a protective instinct. It could be a little bit of nesting that we tend to do when we are pregnant. It's like having a child and he lets the child do what you don't want it to. He's letting the cat get away with things you don't want it to. You may want to sit him down and say hey, I don't like the things you let her do. Just tell him instead of putting the food on our plates, put it in her bowls. When you want her off the bed and catch her there spritz her with some water whether he likes it or not. The cat should be fine with the baby. She may be jealous for a little bit, but she will get over it.

I also must warn you, I hope he is changing the litter box. If he is not please refuse to do it. Pregnant women are not to do that. Having the cat is fine you cannot change the litter box or you may contract toxoplasmosis. It is a parasite that comes from cats fecal matter. That is the only place you can get it from so don't freak and make him get rid of her, just make him take some responsibility for her.

Pregnant women sometimes go through changes in their skin, hair, etc that they may not have had before dut to changes in their hormones. Also cats can cause a very life threatning disease to both the mother and the baby called toxoplasmosis so you must not be involved in the changing of the litter boxes or handling of the feces in any way. Sit down and try to have a calm conversation with your partner about all of this maybe print out some documentation on the subject hopefully he will come around.

When your pregnant you can tend to worry about to much. Give the cat a little bit of space and don't stress because it is not good for you or your baby. Befriend your cat slowly. If you see it sleeping somewhere it is allowed to sleep give it a treat. Positive reenforcement. When it is somewhere it is not allowed to be calmly pick it up and put it where it is allowed and if it stays there for a good amount of time give it a treat or a simple good kitty and a scratch on the chin. My doctor told me when I was pregnant not to ever change a cat box but it is ok to be around your cat. Teach your cat with positive things where its place in the family is now before it wants to sleep with your baby. Best of luck with everything.

GROW UP! you should not have be having kids if you can't uncondionally love a cat. what are you going to do when your kid gets sick or comes home from school with lice or something? Are you going to give it away too. I feel so bad for the kitty to have to be around you.

you are so selfish. I don't know how you are going to be a good mother to this child.
