Plants are autotrophs, which means they make food for themselves. one of the key ingredients for them to make thier food is CO2 carbon dioxide which they use in photosynthesis. when CO2 isn't available then they can't prodce the food needed. and they will eventually die. if there is more CO2 they produce more. if there is less they produce less.
