Polar situation depends on position of person engaged in prayers. It could be North, South, East, or West.

Depending on where they are on this globe, they may pray to all direct where Kaaba is. Theres a way to find out which direction is Kaaba. The muslims are equip with this knowledge.

The holly place Kaaba which is in Mecca. Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) is our pioneer in this world to reach God in every moment of our lives and thats why we are following his sunnah and while we are praying we are directing ourselves to his holly land.

They know that God is omnipresent, but they obediently turn to the direction pointed out by the Prophet of God. And the Prophet must eveidently know that God is omnipresent, but He fixes the direction to show His obedience to God.
Man really doesn't have any knowledge about omnipresence, he may turn around and up and down as well in complete confusion, and he keeps on boastfully argueing with the Prophet of God. For example, he dares ask whether God is present in the atom, in the plant, in the chicken!...As for the direction, he asks where to turn when he flies in space...
That is why I keep on praying that man will learn by reading the Holy Books.
