I don't really know him THAT well. should I tell him this or does it sound weird?

Instead of telling him you miss him try meet him and make it look like an accident so that you can have a chance to know him more. And when you do meet him, talk with him so next time he won't be so much a stranger! It's not easy to begin with, but will be easier and such things need some time to find their way

It would probably sound a bit odd if you just came out with 'I know I don't know you very well but I miss you!'
Try get to know him better in other ways :-)

You miss the guy that you IMAGINE that he is....
you could tell him that you think you miss him a little and want to talk/ keep in touch. then from there you can see if he is really the guy you imagine him to be.

If you miss him that means still you are not decided hence keep contact with him for some more time and nature will take care.
