It depends on how you interpret the question.
In terms of raw dollars (or euros or yen or dinars or whatever), the rich give far more to charity than the poor. Bill Gates, for instance, has given more money away than any other person in history. The bulk of money taken in by almost any charity comes from a few wealthy donors.
However, in terms of the percentage of their income, the poor almost invariably give more than the rich. A lot of poor people put quarters and dollar bills in the Salvation Army kettles at Christmas, while their wealthier neighbors walk on past. While those contributions are small, they are a larger part of the poor people's income than the big contributions wealthy people make are to theirs.

I do believe that the poor donate more. I know alot of rich people and never hear of them helping anyone. You always hear about how much they spent on this that and the other. Poor people are more understanding as to how important it is to give without needing to know what they need the money for. A true christian will give and not think twice. I am neither poor nor rich, but give whenever I can. I make sure to donate that extra 1.00 to feed the hungry children while I'm grocery shopping. I also give an extra 2.00 to Ronald McDonald's house for those children and their families who can't afford medical or hotel bills. I also make sure that where I donate my money, it goes to the people it is entended for. Never just give to an organization because it says they will do good. There is alot of evil out there and we should do our best to avoid it. Don't ask questions, if you see someone hungry, buy them something to eat. If you see someone cold, get them something warm to wear. This is not difficult, this is human kindness. Good luck and GOD bless.

It's neither the rich nor the poor who donate more to charity.... I believe it's the middle class. U know the ones who are working, meeting their living expenses, who still have alot of wants but seem to remember how tough it is for the poor or homeless. So they try to make someone else's life a little easier even if it's only for a day.
it seems the wealthy... tend to be tight on purse strings. They 'll plunk down $500 or $800 for jeans or kid toy but they wouldn't use that to feed the homeless nor send to families who's parents need food for winter. And the poor can't give money, but many offer their time or serve in the community. You have some poor that take from every agency and get an over abundance but the parents who do that tend to spend what little resources they have on themselves. So if it's the only way their children can have Christmas... I wouldn't complain.
Our celebrities tend to be the absolute worse though when it comes to actual giving! They'll lend their name, do a commercial but won't write a check. The exceptions are: Bono, Oprah, and a few others...

I think the poor donate more because they don't only give money. And their time means more as they are able to physically assist where needed. However, the money that the rich donates goes a very long way.

It is most certainly the rich that donate more to charity. And I don't mean that they are financially well off. Only those that donate are truly rich. Those that do not donate remain poor in soul and spirit. Regardless of their financial status.

The Yankees donated $500,000 the day after the quake and MLB donated $a million.5 million purely the different day. So thats $2,000,000 perfect there plus what different communities and gamers are sending on perfect of that. How a lot did you donate? EDIT a real act of charity doesn't require public acceptance.

I don't consider myself poor or rich and I donate whatever I can. I do think many rich people donate, however many don't.

The poor tend to give more and in more ways because they do not have all the trappings that make them blind to others.
The rich worry about to many "THINGS" and often only give when it looks good.
There are those that are rich that do go out of their way to make a difference just because they can (Oprah comes to mind) but they are so far and few between.

Poor people donate because they want to help but reach people donate because they want to save their own soul.
