i am a comfort eater and eat too much chocolate. it is partly the buying it, like a present for myself and then i can't not eat it. it's not even about willpower it's like i literally can't control it. i'm in the healthy range of the bmi but i feel so low in confidence and have never worn clothes i like or felt pretty cos i have flabby tummy and arms. it should just be a matter of eating a couple of small meals a day but then i panic and have to make sure i have chocolate in my room to feel better. helplines don't work, no money for doctor, been to counsellor. at a loss. anyone found a way, preferably psychologically?

Truth is your an addict! You are addicted to sugar and the chocolate. Just like a person is addicted to drugs your addicted and you will need to get this out of your system just like with any drug.

It's OK to buy the chocolate, many women crave it. But buy less. Instead of buying the whole box, buy only one or two. And when you eat chocolate, eat it very slowly. Let it melt in your mouth. And since you use food as a "comfort" zone, find other things to occupy your mind such as learn meditation, or yoga, or start doing something that you have talent in or that brings you joy such as painting or working with children, or get a pet. Good luck!

If you can, do some cardio right after you wake up and before you eat your first meal; it should be between 30min and 60min of cardio. If you decide to do that, start slow...maybe start with once a week, then increase as you see fit. You burn more fat during this time of day, and you get an "afterburn" effect after you stop the cardio where your metabolism runs higher than normal for a few hours afterwards.
Go to a health food store like Sunflower Market or Wildoats or some mom-and-pop place and buy some ProBars. It's one of those food bars you might find in the energy bar section or aisle, but the bar itself has minimal amounts of chemicals and/or factory processing. It's 70% raw, made with whole foods, plenty of complex carbohydrates to keep your stomach busy and your energy going, and healthy fats and a good ratio of Omega3-to-Omega6 (essential fatty acids) which your body needs everyday. You could probably snack on a bar every few hours, but lay off at night when your metabolism starts to slow down...because, then, your body will be more inclined to stuff the carbs away into your fat cells (controlled by insulin).
All humans need protein, too, of course. Everyone touts how great whey protein is, but whey is absorbed by the human body way too fast for all-day use and is most ideal as a postworkout protein (assuming you work out). Eating too much whey, though, could overwork your kidneys as whey only lasts up to 2 hours after consumption. Buy some protein powder with casein in it...and preferrably a powder that tastes good so you're motivated to drink it everyday. I would recommend Cytosport's EvoPro protein powder which has 3g of carbs and 0g of saturated fat with a good mix of casein, whey, and glutamine which happens to be your immune system's primary source of fuel (it's just a type of amino acid) per serving. I don't know what your taste buds are like, so you don't have to try that particular product; explore your options! In case you don't know, casein is a protein, like whey protein, that works slower than whey in that it gels in your stomach and releases amino acids to your body over time...up to 7 hours. This is good because it makes you feel more full and satisfied and gives your stomach something to do instead of making you want to eat more and more.
Also, drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin once a day to make sure every little functioning cell in your body is in working order.
complex carbs + essential fatty acids + casein protein = more satisfying feeling and sense of fullness in your stomach & less craving for eating more than you need to

This is what I do.
SET A GOAL. Force yourself not to eat chocolate. Say that if you eat chocolate everyone will hate you or something. Torture your brain.
Convince yourself that eating small meals is GREAT.
Don't buy chocolate, you're just tempting yourself. Replace it with something else, preferably not sweet or fatty.
Reward yourself with chocolate after doing a LOOONG run or bike ride etc.
Try it.
