Sweets and pastries are of course high in calories because of the high sugar content. Most Filipino desserts are like this, very sweet yet "heavy" on the stomach (so you get full faster).

Meat-based dishes like adobo and caldereta and kare-kare are not only high in calories due to fat content, but also elevate cholesterol levels.

However, the more "Asian" Filipino dishes, composed of fish and vegetable soups and stews, like sinigang or paksiw, or just plain steamed fish and vegetables, are very healthy, and relatively low in calories from fat.
