When you say us you really mean the citizens of the United States.Unfourtunatly we let a lot of things go beause we really don't care outside of our own little world...oh we have sympathy and wring our hands and force alligator tears but when push comes to shove we don't even lean in a little bit. Fortunatley we do have people like Oprah-Gates-Hefner and others who step up and do a whole lot for which the world responds to as "the US> did........." when really it is just a handfull of select individuals.
As an aside--------when taxes are decreased the amount of money " given" increases .So Americans will and do as individuals contribute though maybe not as much as other citizens of other countries.
