I've never been married before but my fella has been married twice. Both times he was married was in a registry office. This time he wants it to be special! However, we don't know how to go about finding a church that will marry someone who's been divorced without going around every church in the area!!! We're hoping to get married Autumn 2007 if we can get everything arranged by then - but the church is the main thing on the list!!!

CAN ANYONE SUGGEST ANYTHING????

Also, any assistance with anything else you think we'll need to look into to solve this problem would be gratefully aappreciated!?!?!?

we are getting married in a church and my partner is divorced - however we had to satisfy three things - that we were not together when he was previously married, if he had children which he did then he had to ensure that he was providing for them and finally he had to be having contact with them - which we ticked all the boxes !!! good luck - im sure you will find somwhere !

I have divorced after a very difficult 30y marriage and re-married currently without any problem. I (as my wife) am a member of Orthodox Christian Church which has three levels of marriage sacraments: for 1., for 2. and for 3. marriage. In the steps 2. and 3. you have to ask forgiving but otherwise the sacrament was really fine and beautiful. - 4th marriage is not recommended in OC Church because that would be too many - one has not tried hard enough...

All which is needed to be a member of Orthodox Christian Church. I know that there are several OC Churches in England, all based on national backgrounds (at least Greek, Russian and Serbian ones), so contact them if needed!

Assuming you are catholic. Or he is.
My brother couldn't get married in a church because he was divorced, but they did find an "outlaw Christian" church that actually advertises that they do marriages for divorcees.
Maybe you can try to do a google search for that. I suggest finding and reserving it soon too, because with church weddings you will likely have to do a few counseling sessions with the priest. most churches require that. My brother elected to elope and get married on the beach in hawaii.
Good luck!!

You need a Methodist church. these are the ones that will marry you and your partner. Just find out if there is one in your area and make an appointment to have a word with the vicar. Congratulations and best wishes x

The Church of England in general will now sometimes exercise discretion in cases where neither party was instrumental in breaking up the marriage of the other. However it is their decision and they might refuse on the basis of your husband having been married twice before.

The United Reform Church will pretty much marry anyone I think.

Hi - I think the only faith who are against remarrying is Catholic so if you went to an Evangilist or Baptist church, you should be OK. I only got married in August so if you want any info, just give me a shout - have about 100 websites etc thatd be useful!! xx

As far as I know, its only the catholics who won't marry divorcee's. Check this website out for churches in your area then just call them up and ask. I'm a Christian attending a non-demoniational church and they have no problem marrying divorcees

The best thing to do is to talk to friends. Normally someone should know a church that would do it. They don't tend to advertise the fact so word of mouth will probably be the best option for you.

Try your local United Reform.
I was divorced and my wife to be was single but this was no problem. As the vicar said we all make mistakes and can fall out of love as easy as falling in love.
Good luck for the future.

i thought it was just the Catholics that did that stuff... can't you just find a Unitarian church or something? I didn't realize this was a problem. What is special, or in any way romantic, about a church?
