Once you join Army or service you have to go whereever the country wants to go.There is no choice. There is no moral or humanitarian question. You have to obey orders. It is just fighting agaist the enemy.I think there is no option to choose Iraq or not.It is the civil population that should see the elected president or govt moves in the right direction. The US population failed to mobilise strong public opinion against Iraq intervention. Please donot blame the Army. They have to obey orders.

Soldiers in iraq are all from democratic countries. They abide by the laws set by their leaders who in turn are elected by majorities.
A soldier doesnt have to agree with the situation but he knows the rules when he accepts his enrolment.
All this said, most soldiers have amuch better insight into the enviroment they are in , the local residents reactions and the nature of the enemy.
Most soldiers i have spoken to, support the action and occupation of iraq.
If i was to form an opinion on the occupation, i would respect the views of soldiers in that situation more than those of an angry misinformed muslim sheltering in britain. Most muslims in britain dont have a clue about the oppression suffered by the iraqi ppl . and while challenging the enforced democracy , they prefer to live in democratic britain!

Surely if you are a trained soldier receiving pay from your government then you do what is asked of you. otherwise why be a slider in the first place!. Its not really for a soldier to ask why but to do or die..

Not doing so is mutiny and ud be liable to the if death penalty if court marshaled and proved guilty.

Cowards die a thousand deaths a brave man only one. Soldiers are a fact of life it takes a certain kind of person to be one , If an enemy attacked this country tomorrow you and many others who moan about them would be demanding were is our army why are they not defending us , It is easy to criticise and to be very moral until it happens to you. as for Iraq i would not walk across the road to help people who wouldn't help themselves , then complain when others do there fighting and die for them

Because of pride of country and they serve to keep their families safe and also for freedom. Only a coward would refuse to fight for those reasons. The teachers we have now, most of them, were cowards during the Vietnam war. If they became teachers they were exempt. So look how many of those teachers are teaching our children are cowards. That is why so many people have no pride and they don't realize how hard we have had to fight to keep our freedom. They are not taught American history or world history the way it should be taught.

By the way our military are volunteers and not forced to serve.

I would on a clerical post or others if my OC says otherwise. I'm creating a scenario here because there is no way am taking a plane to Iraq. Its a guaranteed way to meet your end.
My prayers to those doing this tough job.

Why can't we sit down to talk and not go about peddling torture and killings in the name of justice and liberation.

Already served in the Navy during the Vietnam war era, but since this is a war of choice and only volunteers are needed, I would sit this one out.

I agree with emzie. My brother in law is in the army as an engineer. He loves his job. He is sent places, he doesnt choose to go. Sometimes he is sent on really rewarding jobs like going to places hit by earthquakes to rebuild someones house. He has learned 3 languages due to his placements. Learned cultures and tolerance of peoples beliefs, unlike some people who would rather criticise. I know my country is full of people who hate other cultures through ignorance.

He truely believes he is there to try to help the people of Iraq, and while i believe he should never have been put there in the first place, I hope he manages to help stabilise the situation.

I am here right now....

I am not here to "fight for Bush".....
I am not here to defend your right of free speech.....
I am not here to kill anyone.....
I am not here so my Iraqi friends can try to sleep safe at night..

I am here so that the man or woman next to me has someone that they can depend upon to help them when they need it.

We do what we do for a love of our country, and a genuine concern for our fellow military people around us.

For all of you who would never consider that, I'm glad you are not here..... because we would not be able to depend upon you anyway.....

You'd just get one of us killed with your cowardice and self-doubt.
