Is there any danger in Hup Chai, Thailand?

I'm going there with my family around next week & reccently, there were reports about some bombings & arsonists burning classrooms down in south of Thailand. I asked around among my friends to see if they know Hup Chai is anywhere near the south, but wasn't given an accurate answer.
I wondered if there will be any muslim-like terrorists, or whatever you call them, in Hup Chai. Please help.

Haad Yai is the provincial capital of Songkla Province one of a number of southern Thai provinces dominated by Muslims and being the targets of terrorist attacks and uprisings over recent months. On 16 September 2006 there were coordinated bomb attacks in this city which killed 5 and injured at least 60 people including a number of foreigners. There have been warnings from these terrorists for foreigners NOT to travel to these southern provinces. My advice is not to go and to seek Thai police advice on travel there.

You should clarify with your family. I noticed that there can be several spellings and enunciations for the same thing in Thailand. Hup Chai could be Hat Yai which is the largest city in Southern Thailand. It has an airport, so if you are flying in, it's a good chance that is it. And yes, there are still occasional terrorist activity in the south, it's unfortunate, the new provisional government has not been able to settle anything with the Muslims. They have taken steps to ease the tension but, nothing has been settled yet to bring peace and calm to the area. They have been targeting locals only though a tourist was killed recently.

don't know about hup chai but you'll never be absolutely safe anywhere in the muslim south including Haadyai - better in phuket!
